Charleston, South Carolina is one city you wouldn’t want to leave once you arrive. The mild temperatures, historical architecture, and sophisticated culture lure people from around the globe to buy at least a slice of the Southern charm, as they begin to immerse themselves in the Charleston lifestyle. So, how is life in Charleston, South Carolina?

Charlestowne, as it is called, or “The Holy City”, is just superb. The city has ordinance that state no building should have a height surpassing the tallest church steeple. The church steeples dot the city’s skyline and are part of the rich history of the city. Steeples were initially used as lighthouses.

You know, Charleston was the site where the original Order of Secession signing occurred.  It is in this city where Citadel Cadets made their first shots during the Civil War.

The beaches and the harbor are just gorgeous.

Perhaps you are asking, “How is it to live in Charleston, South Carolina?”

Let me say that Charleston continues to grow as an attractive city for the active adult community. There are many things people aged 55 Plus can do while residing in Charleston.

For example, in Mt. Pleasant, just across the bridge from Charleston, there is Charleston National Country Club.

Considered a tranquil community, residents here take pleasure in state-of-the art facilities within the 18-hole golf club, whose design work is by Rees Jones. You can also enjoy other amenities including tennis courts, fitness center, sun deck, and swimming pools.

Dunes West is another gated community in Mount Pleasant, SC and is an ideal location for those who love golf. Hosting a nationally recognized golf course, Dunes West has three swimming pools, boat ramps, walking trails, and nine tennis courts.

In Summerville, SC, a hop and skip from downtown Charleston, you find Carillon at The Ponds, a gated community situated in a preserved land of 1,000 acres. If you want a 55 plus community featuring low-country designs, then Carillon at The Ponds is the place to reside. The mossy oaks, the sidewalks, and the nature trails are just some of the amazing things you will encounter when you live in this active adult neighborhood. Amenities here include a Carillon, a YMCA with a wellness center and gym, an outdoor amphitheater that overlooks a 20-acre lake, and a 4,000-square-foot Farmhouse.

Okay, maybe you want to know, “Do houses in Charleston, South Carolina have basements?”

Not many homes in Charleston have a basement. The reason is because of the water table and bedrock. These factors make basement constructions costly yet vulnerable spaces to the effects of dampness and flooding.

Simply said, the beaches, the seafood, the slower pace in life and the great homes give the best environment for the active adults who want to have a peaceful living experience in retirement.
